Lois Hole Humanities and Social Science Scholarship
The student must be:
• a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a protected person within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada)
• an Alberta resident. An Alberta Resident is:
o a person whose parent or legal guardian has maintained permanent residence in Canada for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary studies and be residing in Alberta, or
o a person who has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for 12 consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary studies, or
o a person whose spouse/partner has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for 12 consecutive months immediately prior to the person (i.e. the student) attending post-secondary studies.
Course Load Requirement:
Students must be enrolled in full time studies.
• The Recipient may determine what constitutes a full-time course load in each of its programs.
• Students must be registered in the required course load in the Fall and/or Winter term.
A term is defined as a study period of up to 17 weeks in length.
*Credential Types: *
• Students must be enrolled in their second or subsequent year in the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences or Faculty of Arts at a publicly-funded institution in Alberta in the current academic year.
Satisfactory Academic Standing:
• Students are to be in satisfactory academic standing as determined by the Recipient (at an institution and/or program level).
o Recipients may want to consider some of the following criteria to assess satisfactory academic standing for first year students: completion of assignments, satisfactory academic progress, satisfactory marks on assignments and exams and/or satisfactory attendance.
• Students are not eligible to receive the award if they withdraw from studies or drop from full-time to part-time studies before the Grant Proceeds are paid to the student.
Other Requirements
Students must provide evidence of their demonstrated leadership and community service.
Selection Process:
The Recipient will determine Selected Students on the basis of consideration of the student’s academic merit, demonstrated leadership and community service.
